Dr Melissa Meehan is an expert vet, reporter and interview guest on radio and television. Melissa can be heard on MTR with Glenn Ridge, on her show Creature Comforts and is also the resident veterinarian on channel 7's Guide to the Good Life.
For as long as she can remember, animals have been her passion. Dr Melissa Meehan graduated from Melbourne University with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science with honours in 2002. She commenced her career in a mixed practice in the Yarra Valley where she worked for 2 years and then focused on small animals in the capacity of a full time locum in many Melbourne and interstate veterinary clinics.
In 2004 Melissa commenced media work on 3AK providing veterinary advice on an animal talk back show. This was rapidly followed by multiple television presenting jobs (as a veterinary expert, travel reporter, sports reporter and kids show host). She is a part time model and writer and has also appeared on A Current Affair as an expert speaker. In 2007 Melissa produced and hosted her own pet show Vanity Pets for which she received an Antenna award for Best Female Presenter of the year, and went on to be resident vet reporter for the Nine Network’s Talk to the Animals.
In 2008 Melissa added to her academic qualifications and became a member of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists through examination in Small Animal Medicine. Melissa is a highly knowledgeable and experienced veterinarian, respected by her peers. In 2008 and 2009 Melissa worked closely alongside specialist in a referral veterinary ophthalmology clinic, performing intricate microsurgery and providing advice to referring veterinary practitioners.
Melissa is an ambassador for the RSPCA. She also supports numerous animal charities and regularly interviews their representatives on her radio pet show Creature Comforts.
Melissa currently works full time as a veterinarian both at the RSPCA where she assists shelter animals with eye diseases and at Canterbury Veterinary Clinic in Surrey Hills.
While furthering her veterinary knowledge, Melissa still continues with media and charity work, including acting as an ambassador for Global Pet Gallery and Pets in the Park, regular radio guest segments and presenting multimedia productions designed to advise Vets and pet owners.
When not on call or on camera, Melissa loves spending time with her two dogs Bella and Lola, which she rescued from shelters, and her rabbit Milo.
