Brooke Boney

Brooke Boney is TODAY’s News and Entertainment Presenter for the Nine Network. With a background in political journalism, having previously worked for National Indigenous Television (NITV), SBS and the ABC, Brooke joined the TODAY Show in 2019 after her role as Triple J’s weekday morning news presenter.

Growing up in Muswellbrook in the NSW Hunter Region with her mum and five younger brothers and sisters, she caught the media bug early in life, volunteering in community radio while in high school. After leaving school, she worked as an advertising cadet at the Australian Financial Review before leaving to complete a journalism degree.

She attended Sydney’s University of Technology where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications, majoring in Journalism. While at university she produced the morning Blackchat program on Sydney’s Koori Radio before going to class, then did an internship at the ABC in the afternoons.

Before graduating, Brooke scored a job as a political correspondent for NITV in the press gallery at Parliament House in 2013, arriving the same week Kevin Rudd deposed Julia Gillard. She went on to report on the federal election campaign and then crossed over to ABC radio in 2016 , becoming a fan favourite as Triple J’s breakfast show newsreader.

Towards the end of her newsreading stint on Triple J, Brooke garnered a lot of interest after opening her bulletins by saying ‘Yaama’ – the word for “hello” in Gamilaroi, the Indigenous language of Northern NSW.

Brooke has been at the forefront of youth culture since she began working in media in 2010, and as a proud Gamilaroi woman, has written a lot about what it’s like to be an Aboriginal person in Australia.

Her early role as Entertainment Presenter for TODAY included a stint in Los Angeles in early 2020 just before the pandemic hit to report on the awards season, where she also covered the death of basketball icon Kobe Bryant. She has since interviewed many of the biggest names in entertainment, is a columnist for Sunday Life, has hosted and presented on the ARIA Awards Nominations and Awards and has co-hosted the popular podcast The Dream Club with friend Linda Marigliano.

Brooke is a board member of the Sydney Theatre Company. She is also a proud Ambassador for the GO Foundation.
